Cooperatives & savings groups

Dues and contributions, even in the village.

Give every member a wallet in your cooperative's app, let members pay each other phone to phone when there is no signal, bill dues that any phone can pay, and pay members out with a second approver.

Two members of the same cooperative app pay each other with no network. The payment settles when either phone reconnects. Illustrative data.

The rail mix

Members pay the way their phone and their network allow.

Members with smartphones use a wallet in your app and pay each other offline. Members with feature phones pay dues by bank transfer, with USSD coming. Members who prefer cash can pay at an agent. Every payment is recorded on the same ledger that holds your cooperative's float.

Give members a wallet

Every member carries a balance in your app, funded from your float.

Register members you have already verified, without a second round of OTPs, where your agreement allows it. When a member pays you in cash or by transfer, record it in your books and issue the same amount to their wallet from your float. The balance is ready to spend offline for 24 hours and refreshes whenever the phone is online; a lost phone is blocked and the balance follows the member to a new one.

Settle every offline payment

Every payment is signed by both phones and settled once.

Members pay each other, or pay at your cooperative's own till, over NFC, Bluetooth or a QR code, with no network on either side. Both phones keep the signed record and whichever reconnects first settles it; the ledger refuses to spend the same balance twice. Each member sees every payment as held or settled, with a receipt and a button to report a problem.

Collect dues and pay members

Dues come in from any phone. Payouts go out after a second approval.

Bill each member's monthly dues by SMS with a pay link and an account number for transfer, and put members' loan repayments on a schedule with grace days and late fees. Pay members on a schedule or in a batch, to bank accounts, mobile money or wallets: every recipient's name is checked first, and nothing moves until a second person approves. Cash dues at agents are Coming: not yet available

Questions cooperatives ask

Do members need a smartphone?
For the wallet and offline payments, yes: an Android or iOS phone with secure key storage, running your cooperative's app. Members with feature phones can still pay their dues by bank transfer, including from their bank's USSD menu. PediWave's own USSD codes and paying cash at an agent are Coming.
Do we need our own app?
For member wallets and offline payments, yes: the PediWave Offline SDK runs inside your member app, or an app a technology partner builds for you. Billing dues by SMS and paying members out work without an app, through the dashboard or the API.
Where is our members' money held?
Members do not deposit money with PediWave. Your cooperative takes contributions its own way and records them in its own books. PediWave holds your cooperative's float, and a member's wallet balance is your money set aside for that member's phone. Payments between members settle on the same ledger that holds your float.
What happens if a member loses their phone?
Block the phone from your support desk. Payments it signed before the block still settle; anything signed after the block is refused. The member links a new phone, sets a new PIN, and their balance follows them.
Can dues be taken automatically from a member's wallet?
No. A wallet your cooperative issues is prefunded for spending and cannot be the source of a recurring charge. Recurring dues are billed by SMS and paid by transfer or pay link, with USSD coming. A permanent account number for each member, so transfers are matched to them automatically, is Coming.
